Several years ago, an event similar to the Cycle for Haylee was started in Colorado. This event, organized by Don Wick, was named the Ride for 65 Roses. It has become enormously successful, raising over $100,000 annually for CF research. Don has been a friend of the Cycle for Haylee for many years. When it became apparent that the Red Sox were going to play the Colorado Rockies in the 2007 World Series, a friendly wager was placed between Don and Matt Varrell (organizer of the Cycle for Haylee). The bet was this...if the Red Sox win, Don would have to make a donation to the Cycle for Haylee AND show proof that he wore a Red Sox cap for one week. If Colorado were to win, Matt would have to make a donation to the Ride for 65 Roses and wear a Colorado Rockies cap for one week. Needless to say, everyone knows how this story ends. The Cycle for Haylee has is a bit richer thanks to the Red Sox and Don, and Don has a nice new hat to wear around Colorado.
Thanks Don! And remember, as Red Sox fans knew for so many years, there's always next year!
